Located on Bo Hon Island, the Surprising Cave was first discovered by a French scientist in 1901 and was named Grotte Des Surprises - Surprising Cave. This largest cave in Halong Bay was named "Surprise" because of the mysterious and enchanting beauty that gradually unfolds for travellers throughout their exploration journey.

Hidden behind rocks and wild vegetation, visitors must climb up 50 stone steps and then descend 10 stone steps to reach the cave entrance. Surprise Cave may seem rugged and unappealing at first glance, but as you venture deeper inside, it expands with thousands of stalactites and stalagmites in diverse shapes.
Visitors are surprised by the breath-taking beauty of cave
Surprise Cave consists of two main chambers. In the first chamber, the cave ceiling is adorned with a smooth, velvety "carpet" illuminated by clusters of sparkling stalactite lamps. Stone statues of elephants, flowers, seals, and more come to life, captivating visitors. Moving into the second chamber reveals a completely different scene with a vast, spacious interior capable of accommodating thousands of people. At the peak of the cave, visitors encounter an elevated garden with a serene water pond, lush vegetation, and a myriad of birds, leaving everyone in awe.
